The Vietnamese top three is currently fornetube (80 XP), travondatrack (70 XP) and vesviet (55 XP). Vietnam's top board historically has a high rate of movement - players tend to grind in bursts around CTF season and the rankings reshuffle accordingly.
Vietnam is not a huge country by HackerDNA user count, but its CTF tradition is among the strongest in Asia. Teams like efiens, BabyPhD and the Vietnamese Cryptography Association regularly place well on CTFtime, and several have finished high in international finals. That CTF pedigree is the single biggest reason Vietnamese players tend to rank higher per capita than almost any other country in Southeast Asia.
The WhiteHat Grand Prix, organised by BKAV, has been running since 2014 and is one of the oldest CTFs in Asia. A generation of Vietnamese players cut their teeth on its challenges before moving on to international events and then to platforms like HackerDNA. The competition built a local culture where grinding hard reversing and pwn problems is normal - not exceptional - and it shows in how Vietnamese players approach the lab ladder.
Compared with the global average, Vietnamese players on HackerDNA skew strongly toward reverse engineering and binary pwn. Web exploitation and crypto are also represented, but the top of the Vietnamese board is dominated by low-level specialists. Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the University of Engineering and Technology at Vietnam National University Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology are the main academic feeders, and each runs active CTF clubs. VNCERT coordinates the national response on the professional side.
XP comes quickly for players willing to take on the hard reversing and pwn labs that many others skip. The Vietnamese top ten is a tough place to crack - the pool is small but the skill ceiling is high - so the fastest way in is to pick challenges where you can out-grind the competition. The daily recompute means progress shows up immediately, which is part of why Vietnamese players tend to stick around once they start climbing.
fornetube currently holds Vietnam's #1 position with 80 XP, ahead of travondatrack (70) and vesviet (55).
167 Vietnamese players are currently ranked. Vietnam is small by user count but consistently over-performs on XP per player.
Vietnam has a long CTF tradition with teams like efiens, BabyPhD and VCA regularly placing well internationally. The WhiteHat Grand Prix has been running since 2014 and built an early pipeline of serious players.
The WhiteHat Grand Prix is a Vietnamese CTF run by BKAV since 2014, making it one of the oldest in Asia. A generation of local players started there.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the University of Engineering and Technology at VNU Hanoi, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology are the main feeders.
Vietnamese players over-index strongly on reverse engineering and binary pwn compared with the global average.
