solene (4831 XP), SOOBIK (4028 XP) and clemcfire (2959 XP) lead the French board today. The ordering moves often because the French top 20 is unusually close in XP.
Across almost any CTF platform, French players over-index on crypto and reversing relative to the global average. HackerDNA is no exception. The pattern reflects a deep French mathematical tradition: classes prepa, strong algebra and number theory at university level, and a comfort with formal proofs that translates directly into modern cryptography challenges. Reversing rewards the same patient, structured mindset, and French players tend to treat both categories as home territory.
France runs one of Europe's richest CTF circuits. SSTIC in Rennes is the flagship academic security conference and its annual challenge is famous for its difficulty and elegance. Nuit du Hack, now running as Le HACK, has fed generations of French players into the international scene, and events around Le FIC in Lille keep the community connected. Teams like the Polygl0ts and Never Stop Exploiting have kept France in the CTFtime top rankings for years, and their members are visible on HackerDNA too.
Eurecom in Sophia Antipolis, Telecom Paris, INSA Rennes and ENS Lyon are the main academic feeders. Their security and cryptography masters programs funnel students directly onto HackerDNA, and the French top 30 is heavily populated by current students and recent alumni of those schools.
The French board is competitive at the top but surprisingly accessible lower down. New players usually reach the top 200 within a couple of weeks by clearing easy and medium crypto and web labs, then add writeups to compound XP over the season.
solene currently holds France's top spot with 4831 XP, followed by SOOBIK (4028) and clemcfire (2959). The board updates daily.
541 French players are currently ranked, making France one of the deepest European pools on the platform.
French players over-index on crypto and reversing, reflecting the strong French mathematical tradition. Web and pwn are also well represented.
Eurecom, Telecom Paris, INSA Rennes and ENS Lyon are the main academic feeders, along with several other grandes ecoles with security tracks.
SSTIC is France's flagship academic security conference, held annually in Rennes. Its yearly challenge is one of the most respected CTF-style puzzles in Europe.
The French top 100 is tight but reachable. Active new players typically get there within three to five weeks of consistent play.
