West Africa's explosion

Nigeria's HackerDNA community has more than doubled in size over the last 18 months, growing faster than any other West African country. The Nigerian top 100 is one of the youngest on the platform - the average account age is shorter than in most countries with comparable user counts - reflecting a community dominated by university students and early-career security researchers from the Lagos and Abuja tech scenes.

Why Nigerian players focus on web and API security

Nigerian HackerDNA players over-index heavily on web exploitation relative to the global average. The reason is structural: Nigeria is the biggest fintech market in Africa, with companies like Flutterwave, Paystack, Interswitch and Kuda all running large engineering teams that need defenders and offensive testers who understand web application security. Most Nigerian top-50 HackerDNA accounts are people who picked up web fundamentals while working on or around the local fintech stack.

The Lagos tech scene as a feeder

Lagos has become one of Africa's largest tech hubs over the last five years, with concentration around Yaba ("Yabacon Valley") and Lekki. Bug bounty hunting has become a popular entry point into the security industry for Lagos-based developers, and the HackerDNA Nigerian leaderboard captures a lot of that talent in the early stages of their security careers. Several Nigerian top-20 accounts also have public profiles on HackerOne and Bugcrowd.

How to climb the Nigerian leaderboard

The Nigerian board is one of the more accessible top-25 boards for new players because the gaps between adjacent positions are still relatively small. Two solves per week plus writeups is enough to break into the Nigerian top 100 from a fresh account in a few weeks. Web is the easiest entry category, and writing up every lab you finish stacks the bonus on the solve - the fastest way to climb.
